FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) Team 2489, The Insomniacs, has created a human-size robot which will play the FRC game, Breakaway, which is basically a soccer game for robots. T 8am to 5pm each dayhe robots must be able to roll over the bumps on the field and score goals while latching themselves onto towers located in the center of the field. Making a goal is worth one point, attaching to a tower is worth two points, and latching onto another robot is worth three points. We would like to invite community members to attend the Silicon Valley Regional, where we will be competing against other teams from around the nation! The event will run on March 18-20, 2010, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The location is: The Event CenterSan Jose State UniversityOne Washington Square, 290 South Seventh StreetSan Jose, CA 95912-0201We would love to have your support. We hope to see you at the competition! |

Here is a list of the forms that the team requires: Please bring them to the next division meeting you are attending them and give them to either division lead or the team captain. The forms are mandatory for team members. We also require that students submit dues of $50 (check payable to Playing@Learning FRC Team 2489, with student name indicated on it). Those with extenuating financial circumstances may contact the head mentor for financial aid; there are also exceptions for certain supporting roles. Come to a meeting for more information. Prospective members should join the team email group. We also use Dropbox to share team documents; talk to a division lead or the team captain for more information. |

We will be having an orientation to introduce new members to all the areas of the team. The orientation will be this Saturday, 9/5, from 2-5pm at Fukaya Room A in the Fremont Main Library next to Lake Elizabeth. It's for both students and parents, so please come and learn more about our team!
We understand that not everyone will be able to make it to the orientation; you can read up about the team on our website, and find a copy of the forms at the top of the Team News section. Also, feel free to send us an email if you have any questions; we will be happy to answer them. |

This is just a quick message for engineering teams at MSJ or any other schools within our team's jurisdiction - we know there are lots of teams competing in events like Odyssey of the Mind, FIRST programs, and other similar competitions. If a your team will be fundraising now or in the future, the FIRST Robotics team at MSJ can help. We've worked on fundraising and sponsorship for awhile, and we now have several sponsors and resources that we can share. This year we've already raised $15,000 (half our budget) and we have had teams competing in FTC (a smaller, affiliated robotics program) go to the Championships in Atlanta in the last two years. If you're interested, feel free to contact us at

, and we can start a conversation or arrange a meeting. If you're interested in learning more about our team, you can also visit our website at www.team2489.org. |

We're having a team party and BBQ on Saturday, April 25 at 1pm at Lake Elizabeth! The event will run for about four hours, and all current, past, and prospective team members are invited and will be free to come and go. We'd also love it if people from the other robotics teams around Fremont could come by and join us. Please check your email often; we will be sending out information on food to bring! Update: - If your last name begins with the letters A-C, you are in charge of bringing some sort of beverage.
- If your last name begins with the letters D-L, you are in charge of bringing a main dish.
- If your last name begins with the letters M-Z, you are in charge of bringing snacks.
If you can, it would be awesome if you could bring something vegetarian! If not, don't worry about it too much. Also, bring anything that you think would be a fun game idea. (frisbee? twister? apples to apples?) |
