As part of our team strategy, we have focused on winning a few awards during the build season and through the year. Rookie Inspiration Award
The Rookie Inspiration Award is given to the first-year team with the best recruiting and outreach efforts in their local community. In the 2008 season, our team won the Rookie Inspiration Award, as a result of our outreach efforts to FIRST Lego League and FIRST Tech Challenge teams. The Insomniacs has several build-season members that spend most of their time leading, mentoring, and helping local FTC teams. FTC Team 548, Geek Squad, took first place at the East Bay regional tournament in 2007, with several Team 2489 members leading and managing the team, including Danny Yeap, Kevin Yeap, and Cyrus Sutaria. Team member Henna Jethani also leads the FTC Team 455, the Transformers, an introductory robotics team at Mission San Jose High School, and member Albert Yuan leads their programming efforts. Entrepreneurship Award The Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers Entrepreneurship Award is given to the team that displays the best entrepreneurial spirit through their business plan. Teams present their business plan to judges at each regional competition. At the end of the 2008 season, we drafted a new Team Manual and started creating a new business plan. We examined the current and went to community organizations to seek support, including the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, SCORE, and other community leaders. We will present our plan at the Silicon Valley Regional and at the Sacramento Regional. Website AwardThe Website Award is given to teams with the most well-managed and structured website. All teams who meet the minimum standards for a well-designed website receive the Website Excellence Award, while the team that has the best website at each regional receives the Best Website Award.
