Dean’s List Award

The Dean’s List Award honors FRC members who exemplify FIRST ideals. In 2010, the team nominated Senior and former Build Lead Anne Liu, one of our most dedicated members, who went on to be a Dean’s List Award winner at the Silicon Valley Regional. Anne  met her favorite celebrities and FIRST co-founders Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers at World Championships in St. Louis. She continues to be an ADJECTIVE engineer at UC Berkeley.

Rookie Inspiration Award

Mentor Mark Edelman describes the team’s rookie year with “a lot of learning went on in 2008.” No one on the team had any experience with tools or manufacturing. As a result, many of our initial strategies and designs did not form the way we’d hoped, and we ended up at the Silicon Valley Regional with little more than a chassis. However, with the help of other teams and innovating, we were able to gain points in the game by lapping around the field, since Overdrivewas modeled on Nascar. The judges recognized our potential, and awarded the team the Rookie Inspiration Award. It was then that the rookies realized that it was no longer about the individuals’ work, but about the group coming together as a whole.

CalGames First Alliance 2011

At CalGames, during 2011 Logomotion, the first alliance captain Team 254, The Cheesy Poofs, and partner Team 971, Spartan Robotics, chose our team to be their partner. We played largely as a defensive team in the finals, preventing the opposing alliance from scoring. It was the first time we advanced past the Semifinals at a competition, so all of our members and alumni were very excited and proud of the team. We began to trust our abilities more,  and in response, expanded the projects that the team takes on, creating  prototypes and tester bots in 2012. The CalGames First Alliance award was also instrumental in establishing us as a prevalent team in FRC, showing just how far we had come in 3 years.
